It's important to live your life by a motto. I chose to live my life by the motto, 'My enemy's enemy is my friend.' Unfortunately, as it turns out, my enemy is his own worst enemy. So, I have to invite him to barbecues
In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite - Paul Dirac

Let's take it back, old school style. For a lot of us, this is going to bring back some good memories. For me, it was being twelve or thirteen and listening to Dr D. with my dad (against my mother's strong protests). Some very fond memories and some good laughs.

Yep, very fondly! Dr. Demento was my first exposure to Barnes and Barnes! In fact, it was hard to watch Babylon 5 and take Lennier seriously, being that he was played by Billy Mumy.

    REMEMBER THESE???

Crystal AM radios- not much volume (one 'ear bud').... but required IIRC NO battery--

remember WHEN IT WAS ok TO SEND CASH BY MAIL- we used to tape a bit of cardboard around coins to make it harder to know they were in the envelope
AND_ it was also often OK to send postage stamps just like cash --

I still get cash in the mail from some long-timer forum friends- ( this may be to keep the wifey from knowing-- I think he said his lady has the PP password and wont share it with the laser junkie --he husband)

    also

cards puchined with holes for a computer program

    bikes with ONLY 'coaster brakes'

riding two extra passangers on one bike

one sat and balanced on the handlebars, another sat on the seat feet dangling while the 3rd stood and peddeled--& nobody even 'owned' a helmet..

a time when you only had a B&W TV-
we used to visit our 'rich' neighbors -
first to get color and it was awlful compared to today --

remember your folks shhhishing you--'quiet!! can't you see yer Dad is on the phone? (we had just one black bakelite forever)'-- our 'ring' was one short and two long..we had a 'party line' (no not that kind of 'party') so it rang for many and you had to just ignore the other 'rings'--I will never forget my first phone number 98230.

Payphones were inside nice(mostly) 'booths' and it was a dime to use no matter how long you talked-

Later they added a 'prefix' which was letters like HY- but no area codes back then..

Heh, Yeah Hak.. and the B&W TV had "rabbit ears" and a UHF loop, Radio Shack actually stocked electronic components, there was no such thing as a catalytic converter on your car, gas was less than 30 cents a gallon, and a "record" came in 3 flavors.. 33 1/3, 45 and 78 .. good times
