Default SELEM 2025 Laser cut LED desk lamps (interest thread)

SELEM 2025 Laser cut LED desk lamps (interest thread)

The last couple years I've been laser cutting LED desk lamps with the SELEM logo.
I was considering doing it again this year and wanted to get an idea of how many I should make. The nice thing is, if you bought one in previous years you already have the base and only need the disk.

If you would like one, I need to know if you want the base and disk or just the disk.

Bases with the disk are $20
    Disk alone is $10

I will take payment at SELEM.

Here are examples of previous logos.
I will post a picture of this years logo laser cut once selected.

2019 and 2021 are logos I made. They look great! Do I get royalties?

You don't find it unethical making money off of someone's else's work?

    Shadow,

It is not my intent to make money from this. I intended to provide a piece that SELEM attendees could take home to remember the event.

    • I don’t profit from this. The blank disks that the logo is engraved into cost close to what I sell them for. By the time you add my labor to convert the logo into something that can be laser cut, actually cut the logo in each disk and the wear and tear on the laser, I am breaking even at best.
    • Typically I donate the unsold desk lamps to be given away as door prizes at the end of SELEM.
    • I am not the only person putting the SELEM logo on things. A hand full of us do this with different items.

Remember you are reimbursed for your winning art by receiving a free shirt with your logo. Once the art is handed over to Adam it is his to do as he pleases.

Adam and I discussed my idea to make LED desk lamps before I made the first one and he gave me permission to make them.

I’m sorry you feel that I am being unethical and profiting from others work, but this just isn’t true.

I am *very* grateful that you take the time to make these available, Chris.

As for the price, I seem to recall that the first year you made these I suggested you charge a bit more for your time, considering all the effort that goes into making them. Back then, you said that you wanted to keep them as affordable as possible so more people could enjoy them, and it's clear that you're still donating a lot of your time to keep these affordable. Thanks for that!

I have a complete set of these, and I absolutely want to get one for this year's logo as well. In fact, I'll be bringing something to accent the display of one of these lamps with me this year. (You'll have to wait until SELEM to see it though!)

    Adam,
Thank you for the kind words. I have you on the list for one.

    Chris
