What the fuck is this? A US citizenship lottery... I just saw it as a banner for imageshack and... had to share. Maybe this should have gone into steve-o's joke thread...

Actually that is not a joke. It is called the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program that is organised by US government annually. Application is free.
The banner most likely is from one of manny companies that make money by 'helping' applicants fill out the forms and make sure that they meet specification or so they claim.

Taxes? I don't think the gov't taxes them, actually I heard that they give 'em money to start/ run small businesses..

I have received quite a few of these emails, claiming you can win US citizenship. At first I played along, only to find out that you have to pay them quite a bit of money....

You guys are lucky in having a say.
Here in the UK we get thousands every week pouring in and straight away claiming all sorts of benefits from the government, paid for by the likes of me in the form of taxes and we can't do bugger all about it because we are part of the EU and every EU citizen has the right to help themselves out of my wallet.
