Interesting. How did you break the bond of the adhesive holding the diode in place? I've stripped down a X16 DVD burner and got as far as the diode and a lump of heatsink it is going through. I'm a bit wary of going in with a screwdriver to seperate the two.

i have had 3 dvd burners now all of them 16x, two liteon and one emprex makes i purchased these because they were cheap and all three had a slightly different way of holding the diode in place the emprex soley relied on a good push fit into the mount but both the liteon's were a good push fit pluss they had some kind of themal epoxy resin around them to keep them in there place and help take the heat away all i done on all three is carefully cut right up to it with my dremill with a ultra thin cutting blade taking my time and once i have cut one side i just gently wedge the cut open with a thin sharp screw driver to crack the aluminium casting works a treat but you have to have nerves of steel if you working on a tight budjet hope this helps
