I bought one of those for that guy for my lumia wheel. Haven't had a chance to hook it up to anything, though.

Smile Details on glass for lumia

A few pics on the lumia wheel Ar/HeNe & green DPSS (quick shots - apologies for poor quality).

You should be able to find this at Hobby Lobby (craft store - Central US), stained glass section. Look for "clear granite cathedral", about $5 for a square foot. This will provide a nice lumia with sharp edges that swirl back into the image as you rotate the wheel. Another sheet "clear waterglass" will produce a nice fuzz effect, at $6 a square foot. Failing that, a trip to the local stained glass shop with a laser pointer works too.

Once cut, a glass grinder helps with this. I've got several sheets in the garage now that could find a good home. Time permitting, I'll cut & grind these to a 4" wheel for a buck + shipping costs if anybody wants one.

I read that someone used a galvo to vibrate mercury with a laser beam reflecting off of it to create a water type effect. I want to try an recreate
this effect with an old mercury thermostat I have in the basement.
