Default Mini review of LaserShowParts SCANLSP30

I was on the hunt for a cheap set of 30k scanners recently (and almost as if he knew) Dave posted somewhere that LaserShow Parts are now selling a new range of 20k and 30k scanners that were priced at $145USD for the 20k and $215USD for the 30k.
A couple of emails and a few days later the boys at LSP had postie at the door with my new 30k’s

    First impression:
All good quality, very small drivers

    In the box:
    1x +/- 24v PSU
    2x drivers
    2x galvos
    1x scan block
    2x scanner -> driver cables
    2x signal input cables

    PSU:
    +/-24v 1A per rail
    24v is pre-wired
M3 threaded holes on 2 sides for horizontal or vertical fixing
    129x38x99

    Drivers:
    Integrated heatsink
    Fused
    Differential signal input
    SMD components
    M4 threaded holes for fixing
    101x60x40

    Galvos:
    Pretty standard 6800 style design
    Broadband 6x10mm mirrors

    Scanning:
Tuning was excellent as supplied and the ILDA test pattern and lasermedia quad scanned perfectly at 30k @ just over 8 degrees and looked very good at up to 17 degrees. Revelation looked nice and tight with no obvious distortions at 17 degrees, I was short on time and didn’t do any further testing with shows at various angles.
The scan angle maxed out at around 40degrees.

Everything runs quite cool, I temporarily disconnected the drivers and scan block from the base plate to monitor temperatures and nothing overheated after 15 minutes scanning various frames at 40 degrees:
    Ambient: 23-24 deg C
    Driver 1: 34 deg C
    Driver 2: 36 deg C
    Scan block: 26 deg C

    Upsides:
    Price
    Small amps
    Very good performance
Low loss mirrors (~50mW losses over both mirrors from a 1.1w green laser)

    Downsides:
No invert signal switches on the amps

    Overall:
The 30k’s are a well made very good performing scanset with an exceptionally low price tag.

    Price:
    SCANLSP30’s 30k scan sets: $215USD (153EURO or £130GBP

Default Thanks for the min review

Thank you for the quick review, p1t8ull!

After general performance disappointments with my Laserworld CL-700RGB and my older Seven Stars K2000+ RGB, I finally decided it is time to build my own and the quality and price-point on these scanners look like a good place to start. I'll have to see what I can gut from my older rigs . . .

    Nice review Simon, thanks!

These will will be a good choice for such small satellite projectors. But you say, no invert signal switch on the amp. So if I'll make two projectors with inverted X axis, how will I have to do that?

Swap over the signal input wires (reverse the + and -).

Thanks! As simple as this... I should sometimes think twice before asking

And no matter if my DAQ is single-ended or differential?

Or you can wire a DPDT switch into the signal - and + wires like this, and have a X/Y flip

PS, thanks for the review Simon
