    Default Laser Problem

    Hi,
If the manufacturer will repair it i would go with them if they are reasonable. If not try Sam Goldwasser (Sam's laser FAQ). Sounds like a driver problem to me )electronics). Phil 142laser
    Phil Bergeron( AKA 142laser)

I'm with steve on that. Tell us what the brand is and we will tell you what garbage you did buy! I'm already an expert in this field.

Electronics... could be just a "cold solder joint" It's usual for automatic solder machines. When the circuit board worms up cold joint disconnects and nothing is working. Turning off and on will make it go again until it disconnects again.
I hired an Italian guy to do my wires. Now they look like spaghetti!

Yeah cold solder joints are a bitch. I work in electronics and they can drive U crazy--chasing ghosts-- is what we call it--
freeze spreay is a good way to isolate the section of the PCB.
Oh and btw -yes we know who Sam is..

How do you do this? Remember, electronics for dummies...

Buy electronic freeze spray from electronics store, turn on circuit, wait till it faults, spray very small sections of the board until you notice a change in behavior (may not necessarily start working exactly correctly) , re-solder all solder pads in that section. Ive actually had to resolder every connection (on the back side of the entire board) when I couldnt find one , one time and it worked. This method works 50% of the time. Electronics is one funky business to get into..
If you can send it off...warranty repair?

    --edit--
sh*t- forgot- TURN POWER OFF (UNPLUG) AND WAIT 5 MINUTES BEFORE SOLDERING, Then turn power on to see if problem is fixed -never solder a circuit with power applied!!!

if I suspect a cold soldering I normally resolder every joint on the PCB . Places with very suspicious joints I use a tester.

I ask again-- What kind of a laser is it??
The more info you provide; the more info you receive

    edit-
Any pointers on what the problem could be.
Is it a 'pointer'? possibly with 700mw IR

Yes Ill bet my IR is pretty hi as it is a low grade unit off ebay.
all i have is the model # placed on the laser by the seller. it is the GPX-1000
I cant recall name of the ebay seller eho i got it from... ya not good I know.

But the good news is I think I may have fixed it from some tips given from this thread. I turned the laser from %100 where I usually run it down to %90. The shutoff problem stopped! Perhaps it just overheats when at full. So I will run it at %90 from here on out. Probably a good idea anyhow>>>? ya??

    Thanks all for you help.
    Have a good one -

    Matt
