Default The popelscan clone from eKitforall (norm) review

Gonna give a partial review then the rest after I use it tomorrow

I bought the DAC from ekitforall for eBay:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=260169310860

as well as the power supply:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=260169310940

He doesnt currently have any items listed for sale but I am sure he will again

Anyhow, bought the dac back in feb then assembled it but could not find a decent priced regulated 15vdc +/- power supply. I notified him of this and what did he do. Came out with a new kit, this time for a power supply. They both come with detailed instructions and great e-mail and skype support. So far, the only thing I have tested is that it powers up and doesnt turn into a pile of dust and ozone. It did not, so tomorrow when I get off work I will be using the software from his site http://norm.servehttp.com/

I know this isnt my style really and I sure couldnt use it on the road. Sometimes I just like putting things together and seeing if they work. He also sells a galvo kit but I dont have the patience. Maybe one day

Here is the pic of it assembled. Click for a 7 mp image of it

I think Banthailin laser systems developed this piece around 1976. You might want to talk to him about your clone first- before he envokes international patent protection-

lol adam, i will do the review but that was a total mood killer when I got home, motivation went down 99%. Besides, mine is different as it supports red and green

and that bastard at Banthailin laser systems can kiss my arse. I have his clone and I shall be offloading them to crack heads in downtown charlotte

Well when I first hooked it up, my first power supply wasnt producing and the one dac I fully assembled wasnt working on the x axis. After some needed support from Norm, found out how to get me running and the results are posted below. Yay! I will say that norm offers the best support there is.

The problems turned out to be a "bad ior missing insulator on one of the regulators" since I had a heatsink it was grounding out causing one of the legs on the power supply to be bad. I isolated the heatsinks and that temporarily has fixed my problem.

The other problem is that any port replicator (I have many) for my thinkpad 600 series laptops do not have all the pins on the parallel connection, not good.
