Get something working and I'll add support for it to my laser show software.

Good God, looks like a fuckin nightmare. Hope they come pre-built. I'd hate to proto-board that..
    That's a USB controller?

It's not that bad as long as you had the boards made professionally. I wouldn't want to have to deal with it otherwise.

    Hello,

Hardware complexity is mostly due to USB interface, parallel port DAC looks very simple in comparison. If you need USB interface (for reasons in the first post) then this design has minimum features required for USB DAC. You can not find a USB DAC design with much simpler schematic or much less components.

Also, there is a big difference for designing the commercial product and designing the hobbyist product. This design was made for the commercial product. If you want to make the hobbyist product, it may not be very appropriate. This is why I make the thread about the general idea, not the specific design. If you want to make the hobbyist product for hand assembly and building one at a time, you can still use this design for circuit ideas and component selection mostly.

Example: This design is made to be assembled by machine in small batches. You can use a service like http://www.screamingcircuits.com/. The advantage of this is that the finished device is very compact, and the newest and cheapest components can be used. If you want to make the hobbyist product with through-hole components for hand soldering, the most recent components are not available in through-hole package so you must use the older components which are more expensive or less performance. This is necessary for the hobbyist product, but this is not appropriate for the commercial product.

    Kind regards,

Chris, This technology has been superceeded. search for soundcard dac
zoofscope, lazymame, laserboy, zooftennis. Off site search for spehgetti laser software.

    Download LFIPLAYER from sourceforge

We now do a lot of this stuff on a 6 or 8 channel USB sound card that costs 25-40$ and a level shifter

This model is known to work:

You can also PM drlava about his ezauddac driver, since renamed.

Drlava can also tell you about more freeware and commercial software that works with the soundcard dacs.
