OK the run has started. Pictures to follow. They are presently 30% complete and should have the run completed by the end of next week.

I just got the bill for the prototype I had a machine shop put me together yesterday. Needless to say I was not prepared for that sticker shock.

$895 for something to show everyone what this was going to look like. the diode press fit hole is even too big so it's not even functional!

Ah well, at least the barrels will be done soon.

    Question

Does it fit now? Looks nice though.

I don't know if it fits or not as they havn't finished drilling out the hole for the diode. When they get the hole cut for the lens and the threads, then they can test the fit.

Bah! $899? It shouldn't be that high. as long as there is nothing too complicated, like active tooling on that CNC lathe, the g code should be easy. For the boring, you can just buy a boring bar set for that diameter. You are getting ripped off if you pay that much!

no it wasn't on a cnc machine. it was done by a basic machine shop on a normal lathe. shop time at $85/hr plus materials equals a lot of money.
