Maybe not THE worst but you just have to see how styrofoam picks up bits of just about everything to see how good it is at static charge creation. Its less of an issue when components are all soldered together on a board but this does not imunise against a zap - it just helps to prevent one. A bare LD & styrofoam would not be a good thing.

Don't worry... Laserlips has removed the styrofoam from his enclosure. He's actually got his projector working now. He posted some pictures and a video or two in another thread. So although the packing peanuts weren't the best idea, they didn't cause any harm to his FB3.
