Cool New Laser breaks Diffraction limit

Checkout this interesting article about a new type of laser that breaks the diffraction limit.

Amazing potential for increasing storage capacity. Imagine saving around 750 movies on one DVD !....

That is interesting. I thought the diffraction limit was unbreakable. Wrong, obviously. This might work for increasing beam energy density and getting fine collimation for very narrow beams. Not sure how exactly, but it seems logical, given that most of those specs were limited by the diffraction limit, even if everything else was made as best possible.

Using negative Index optical metamaterials also help achieve better resolution than half the wavelength of the laser source. Nano technology is still in it's Infancy so I wonder what's next ?
