Seriously, the price break is at 100 units - I already asked I doubt anyone would want to administrate the shipping on that, and I suspect the rewards wouldn't make it worthwhile.
The price is good already. If you want a set (or 2) contact Justin (who is out of the office for a little bit I've just been told by email...)
There are reasons for not publicly posting the price, some of which Bill detailed in his earlier posts about who he is dealing with (OEMs) and quantities.
There is no conspiracy, nor preferential treatment (at least that I could see, unless I'm getting a soooper special price, which i seriously doubt)

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

    Hi guys,

    A few points:

    1. Remember, neither Justin nor I get to PL very often, therefore pretty much any other communication method would be better (for example our own forums, email, Skype, etc.)

    2. These do work well with HB amps, and HB knows how to do the mods.

    3. HB gave us both Pangolin/OEM pricing as well as retail pricing on their amps. I simply forget what it is because I try to concentrate on development, leaving Pricing things to Justin.

    4. In Justin's private email to Norty, I think Justin merely forgot to mention the price of HB amps. Justin just got back from two weeks of travel, and only received Norty's email today -- day before Thanksgiving don't forget... so it would have been easy to overlook that implied question.

    5. The biggest problem is that we're selling these scanners at what are truly bargain-basement prices. Unbelievably low prices really, and I am sure Norty would agree. And my own per-hour billable rate for support is many times the price of these scanners. So we'd eat up any profit in a hurry with back-and-forth emails, questions, etc. which inevitably would be questions that only I could answer. When used with pre-tuned HB amps, I really don't expect that there will be any support problems at all. But I am sure it will happen sooner or later, especially with a guy who wants to use our scanners with their own amp. And if I go back-and-forth 10 times for a customer who purchased 100 scanners, that's not so bad. But if I go back-and-forth 10 times for a customer who purchased only a single scanner, we'd go out of business in a hurry.

I think in the short term, we'll sell these to individuals at an elevated price -- just to cover any possible support question. We'll sell to OEMs who place an order for 100 pieces or more. And over the longer term we'll setup a kind of dealer/distributor who will purchase in quantities and then sell directly to individuals at the lower price, but then it will be that dealer/distributor who will need to answer support questions.

Thanks. That makes abit more sense as to not have a advertised price.

Default Hopefully the 506s will be available for sale to the small guys

I think its pretty cool that Bill of Pangolin takes the time to visit this forum and share some industry knowledge and some of his company's product development.
These 506 scanners sound very interesting, I'm looking forward to Steve's review of them. Seriously considering purchasing a set for my next projector.
Hopefully the documentation and driver amp will be buttoned up in the near future to where it would in fact be available to the amateur and hobby market.
Perhaps not much support would be required from Pangolin once the documentation is buttoned up.... I would think anyone purchasing just a scanner or scanner with matching amplifier set would be competent enough to get it running on their own.

Bill, I hope you consider making this product available for sale in low quantities (like one) perhaps with the understanding there is no support (although I understand that is not your organizations position on customer support). I do understand you don't want to support individuals purchasing just one unit because its simply not economical - I'm hoping this only holds true during the initial release

It's pretty amusing to see this thread still going after all these years but I am ok with that. I could use some scanners and I like the idea of buying American made products. So, waiting to hear what the bottom line is once the dust settles. Meaning, where can I buy a complete set (galvos AND amps) and what is the cost. It's all pretty confusing to me at the moment... but I admit I don't really have time to read the details and research the options.

Ouch indeed! Bill was not wrong when he said that the amp cost now exceeds the scanner costs, by some way!

Be interesting to see what the Pangolin credit card amp comes out at.
