    Lightbulb Newest game: Laseroids

Over the holidays I had some time to work on my own version of asteroids: Laseroids. As you guessed: it is played on your favorite RGB laser projector with easylase DAC As in the original game it features four sizes of asteroids, the unwelcome UFO visiting and the hyperspace option. The UFO was a bit tricky to program: it needs to shoot at asteroids on a collision course to clear a path but not at all asteroids so it still has time to shoot at the ships.
There is also a two player mode! It is set up cooperative yet competitive. Players can't shoot each other and they share the five lives given at the beginning. So it encourages to help the other ship out. However, each ship has its own score and when one ship dies the other is awarded points. When all lives are used both ships die.

Haven't finished it up yet for distribution but here is a sneak preview to show you some of the fireworks I've been creating with the lasers.

And in TWO player mode, complete chaos:

All the best for 2008 and happy lasing!

ps. the digital cam has a hard time focussing on lasers in the dark so the images are a bit out of focus.....

    Thanks Dave!
It would be great if someone would post a vid op the Pangolin asteroids for comparison. I could only find the one pic on their website.
    cheers, Z.

If you need to ask the question 'whats so good about a laser' - you won't understand the answer.

I might have to buy Easylase just for your additions to it ...

Zoof, would you allow me to make Moncha version out of that? If not, if I give you the Moncha API/driver could you do it? I don't mind doing it at all but if you want to keep the code to yourself that is understandable.

Actually, since both are USB devices you could probably make your software smart enough to detect which one is plugged into it. The Moncha API is pretty similar to the Easylase API. If you remember, I already got your old version roughly working on Moncha and it didn't take long at all.

    Five stars *****
Here is a list of the things I like the most:
    1) I love the explosion of the ufo. It is like a fireworks burst.
    2) The speed of the bullets
    3) The motion is nice and fluid
    4) You seemed to be able to avoid the dreaded "screen blink" with lots of objects being rendered on the screen.
After toying around with some of this stuff with mixed results, I can appreciate the skill required to accomplish the above list!
    Now, for the big question-
When do I get a copy??????
    Thanks, Mike
