All received paul with thanks - and thanks for the extra axis and the L-pens

Let me know what I owe you for the mount and duty's.

    --------------------

Does anyone have a dichro to fit the 3 axis mounts in the GB that will reflect red and pass green please?

    Thanks

    Jim

Received mine today. Packed and shipped like a pro. What's with the laser pointers though?

Anyway, big thanks to Paul, Max and Bridge for making this work! It's things like this that give me faith in mankind.

I have got one (not for sale though) , I got it from ebay from a user called bjomejag, he has great deals on dichros and other optical parts.

    These are all his dichros

The one i bought is not in there, but he adds new ones frequently, so look out for the ones with your spec.

The one i got was 99% reflective for 650nm and 95% transmissive for 532, and it was only $11 !

Thanks, received my stuff today too!
    Funny pointers!

I noticed that my three axis holders was different models, anyone seen that? One has a sloping part where you mount the dichro and the other one is square!

OK, potentially stupid question here, but how are you supposed to fasten the mirror in the mount? The mirror is too thin to be held in place by the screw when it's resting against the inner ring in the mount. I've tried distancing the mirror further from the ring, but the bloody mirror just keeps jumping out.

I'm impressed by the quality of the mounts though. They seem very nice.

While I agree it can be tricky - I have been able to do it every time I have tried. Just be sure to leave some lens tissue on the dichro to keep it safe while you are installing it.

I have been tempted to cast a dichrohic 'collar' of sorts. If I get around to it I will be sure to post my results. I figure I will probably make a wax mold and work it into a plastic final product.

I'm thinking the same but I'll mill or turn a piece of aluminium instead or just put in a thin washer.

Thanks Mine arrived yesterday, but the postman delivered elsewhere (as I was out of the unit) so I only got them today. Everybody that has put the specs on have said wow lol

Are the rgb spec meant to completely stop rgb or do they just reduce it?

I only ask, as that unexpected pointer shines right through them

The specs also look very well made, and quite stylish lol

    Thanks for the pointer btw,

ps. I have told leaky that I also have his cubes

    Thanks to everybody involved

They do not block all the light, they just reduce it. If they blocked it all you wouldn't be able to see any of the laser-fun!

Oh, and by the way, I had to take apart one of the small laserpointers I got from Lasermad!
It contained a very strange diode, not in a can but sort of surfacemount. It was a metal plate with a small piece of PCB mounted on top that had a small wire to the diode.
I managed to get 5mW out of it before it popped!

I measured the transmittance of a pair of green only laser safety goggles from bridge using a fancy UV/Vis spectrophotometer at my uni. The transmittance at 532nm was 1.54% with close to 0° incident angle. I then compared them to the RGB goggles I just received using a 532nm laser and found that the RGB goggles are less efficient at reflecting green light (as expected). I would expect the transmittance to be 5-10% for the RGB goggles at 532nm, but I will try to get some real measurements done.

In practice this means that, while they do offer some protection, you should not be doing any intrabeam viewing with them.

These safety goggles typically never completely block at any visible wavelength. That is for a good reason, because it is also unsafe not knowing where your beams are going. Otherwise you might get an unpleasant surprise when you remove your safety goggles (or put your hand in an 80W laserscope beam by mistake).
