    Definitely seconded!

I was a little nervous about turning up with my crappy homemade kit last time, but everyone was just genuinely helpful and friendly!

I dont think we need cordons. What we need is responsibility and common sense. I believe Jem started this thread merely to make people think about what could happen and have it in thier minds on the day to avoid mishaps. Also as I pointed out in an earlier post there are risks form the cables and in my case water hoses that will be lying around the floor in a largely darkend room. This in many ways is more important to keep in mind than the laser beams because as Kevin (lynx) pointed out a laser can only blind you, electricity can kill you.

We need to a safe sensible meet which can only happen if the people attending are safe and sensible. We dont want to go OTT as this is a private meet rather than a public 'event'. That does not mean we ignore issues of safety but rather that we keep them more informal but very much in our minds and as I have said all along we each must be responsible for our own actions - if you are worried about a beam in the eye stay away from where the beams are. If you choose to get in the beams you do so at your own risk not anybody elses.

well as you say there wont be any really avarage joes there everyone will know the dangers of lasers and especially if anyone brings a gas laser they work on stupid voltages and with watercooled high voltage lasers there is a risk but we know what we are doing and if someone doesnt they are smart enough not to touch

Indeed and I will be bringing my gas laser with water cooling - pipes pump and all!

220VDC in the head at up to 34A will not shock you - it WILL kill you.
these babies need respect by the truckload - and that is before you trun on the beam!
