    Senior Jon
Excellent wrap up to an otherwise animated post- LOL

For everyone who participated -just remember on several occasions I never said I condoned
the event- I was speculating on what if any citations would arise, and hoping no industry
    related aftermath would occur-

The comments about the high profile nature of the show have been reflected in other conversations I have had reguarding this event. I have admitted from the begining-
that legal or not, the show was dancing on a pinhead-

Jon, Thanks again for the info and a great wrapup- definitely believe we would have some good laughs over a few shots- look foreward to meeting up with you at an event-

Well , pending new information from jon or the feds-
    I'm signing off-
Thanks to all for the healthy discussion-
    go big or go home

    Jon & Co

Reading this thread has basically frightened me to death about turning a laser on in public ......especially if it would ever get taped so people can analyze it like has been done in this thread ..........part of the biggest issue for me personally is i watched the first video and thought nothing was wrong , although i can see by reading the thread the extracted images where it did go wrong , alo the comments and thoughts mentioned from "Disney" in one of the posts was very sobering !

I am also now curious about your comment in another thread

"" I can ALSO share with you several ACCOUNTS (not stories, that might be embellished / exaggerated - FACTUAL ACCOUNTS) of a few of those types of 'IDIOTS' Chad mentioned (ie PR) that skirted, even IGNORED the LAWS, and have ended up with HEAVY FINES (ie $15,000.00) AND a nice lawsuit for BLINDING someone, to the tune of $750,000.00 - yes, read it again, that's not a typo. ""

this may well bea good thread to passover that information ....i am Uk so a lot of the laws etc are not directly relevent although of course safety information is always relevent.

What on earth went wrong for someone to get sued for £350,000 ? or was this the "no win no fee" madness thats crept up on us in the Uk blowing damages out of control ?

    PAUL

Now to find safe big enough to lock my laser away forever
In the beginning there was none. Then came the light - #1 UKLEM - 2007

WOW, my statement was there for everyone to see- who are now reading this-

You seem to have had a respectible carreer in photonics and the show community-
but I have to say I don't even know where your comming from when you are not reading what I wrote-

You quoted it- its right there for everyone to see-
    Ok You said...
yes i await the missing episode- and hard data, which i doubt can ever be furnished - we know the old eye o meter can not possibly geneate hard data on light, illumination, and or exposure levels, i'm making a best guestimate for purposes of this discussion that the exposure was under the limit based on its non direct nature and size of the actual illumination

Missing episode irrelevant jon showed pics. True eyeball meter can not generate hard data on light.

I guess what what i was in objecting to was that Guestamates dont work only meters work. ANY EXPOSURE in EYEBALLS IS not a good gig. My point was the actual type of illumination (as explained in another post of mine) is IRRELEVANT. Direct, indirect, scattered, reflected, diffuse are all treated the same way.

Sorry there clan- I did read it carefully and assumed that you were treating ANY illumination of eye balls as caviler. (my bad & apologize) It appears that I was being very anal about splitting hairs in your post.

    Hi Paul - Cheers!

Well, #1, the purpose was NOT to 'scare' but INFORM - the more we are informed about the CORRECT way (and via threads like this, how NOT to do it, and WHY) the better off we, as Laserists (since NOBODY, including myself, is above a good REMINDER) AND for those, coming to PL, as 'newbies', will be...#2, the Co. / individual responsible, here, SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER, and it was just frustrating as hell (putting my 'rant-hat' back on for a moment ) to watch someone who shamelessly undercut you to win an already low-ball job, only to, then: A. Break Federal and State Laser Show Laws by DOING the show unregistered, AND, B. Operate POTENTIALLY dangerous fx, that, in fact, HIT someone directly in the EYEBALL - at LEAST ONCE, on National TV!! - (God only knows what happened 'frame-by-frame' in the other segment Steve mentioned...) - All this RISK, and it was SO unnecessary! Let me encourage you - no reason to 'ditch' your laser - this COULD HAVE been done, LEGALLY, SAFELY, and in my opinion, BETTER (artistically / impactfully)...

    ...I'm ranting again, aren't I? Ok...

The reason I won't post specifics about what I mentioned over to Nano, there - again, in the same 'spirit' as my postings here - doing things 'right' and safely - even though those are 'excellent' examples of what CAN happen, and they are EXTREME, from YEARS of one RECKLESS individual, is for privacies' sake, I wont publish names (like I won't about the co/indi involved in this Conan show) - and really, knowing NAMES misses the POINT of gleaning the benefits of the 'lessons learned'... but if you MUST KNOW, PM-me, I will PM you those who have had PERSONAL, DIRECT experience with this one 'train-wreck' of a so-called 'laserist' - truthfully, there are very FEW serious accidents / reckless incidents, but that is, IN PART, due to HAVING laws / regs, and RESPONSIBLE humans, willing to APPLY / ENFORCE them - if there were NO laws, I am sure there would be a LOT more of those aforementioned-types running around, shooting-up bars with 40 Watt medical lasers, epoxied to a 2x4, balancing on a milk-crate, all bound with duct-tape, on top of a cereal-bowl!

    peace..

    Default Clandestiny...I apologized...GEEZ!!! But...

I know for the most part we were on the same page for the topic but you got me when I thought you were minimizing the fact that he was exposed.

I treat ANY illumination of eyeballs as DEAD SEROUS! I have had cataract surgery in both of my eyes due to many years of humping over cathodes of big ion lasers due to the intense UV exposure. I know what it is like to be blind even if it was temporary. I value my eyes as much as my kids. (may be even more)

NO ONE mentioned the thought that if this "exposure" were from a q-switched KTP YAG or a Copper Vapor laser, Conan would have been exposed to thousands of watts of peak power before he could even blink.

Wow, I'm surprised that slipped through the cracks! I guess we all assumed it was a non-q-switched DPSS.
