Well said Buffo!
Well said Buffo!
I used to think it was just harmless arguing but I have come to realize that it is worse than that. Since LaserBoy creates those non-standard format 3 files any software reader has to be aware that if they encounter a format 3 header that it might be a real one or it might be a LaserBoy one. If they try to read a LaserBoy file expecting it to be a real format 3 file they will have a very big problem. Since LaserBoy is relatively undocumented english language product, this pretty much screws the rest of the world. Someone in Japan or Germany is unlikely to read the LaserBoy webpage to know what is going on. They will only wonder why weird format 3 files crash their application that was written against the ILDA (international) standard. We are very lucky that format 3 is dead and that most new software will simply ignore format code 3 and not encounter this issue. In fact, as I write this I have convinced myself that the best thing to do is to simply not read files that have a format 3 in them. I'll write a converter that I can run outside of my application in case I want to convert a real or fake format 3 file. This will allow upgrading any format 3 file (even a laserboy format 3 file) to a proper file. I'll place this converter on my website for anyone to download and use.
To avoid that mess, I'm simply staying clear of and away from laserboy and the 'retarded format 3'
LaserBoy lives in it's own little world... in my mind and on your computer.
It only knows how to see the contents of its own folder.
All of the vector art files that are read or written by LaserBoy are inside that space.
I have NEVER released an ILDA file that was in LB_format_3 unless I specifically stated that it was for the purpose of demonstration.
I have pointed it out on a few occasions when someone else released an ILDA file that was in LB_format_3, even though it came from a thread about using LaserBoy!
ILDA format 3 is dead. I think it's safe to assume that no one should ever be making new files that have the 16 byte, non uniform header followed by an RGB color table.
You should never find a LaserBoy file just laying around. You should always know where it came from; even if only from where it is.
The version of format 3 that is implemented in LaserBoy is perfectly logical. It adds a great deal of utility to LaserBoy.
I am not going to break LaserBoy.
If that's something that makes you not want to use it, then don't use it.
James.
I'm disappointed in you Zoof.
There is nothing "retarded" about a working solution.
It's there in hopes that people like you would see it.

Thats it, I've had it. This ends now.
I've been way too kind and more than courteous. I stayed on the sidelines hoping this would go away, and for a while it did and things were good. I ignored many things because I believed that every person, no matter where they come from, can provide something useful and be a productive member of the society that is PL. Apparently my logic is flawed. My "religion" forbids such behavior and states that I must correct it.
I've held conversations on the phone with numerous members here and while we don't agree on everything, we can amicably agree to disagree and then just let the chips fall where they may. They know that I can abuse my position as Administrator and use it to justify any action I want, but they also know that I am not an egotistical shit head. They know that I hold modesty in high regard and that I put thought into *every* action I take. They know this is a dictatorship but trust that I will not abuse the very power that comes with that knowledge.
There is a *glorious* disconnect with reality here at PL. Put another way: The SNR has inverted. Initially I wanted to break out the Clue-by-four and 500 Megaton Crowbar and apply liberally. I did not invoke the tools at my disposal believing my actions would be "emotionally driven" and detrimental to PL as a whole. I assumed: and there in lies the problem.
I am sick and tired of seeing this ILD format nonsense. I'm sick and tired of seeing blatant thread high jacking to promote Laserboy.
It seems that my silence on this matter was taken as an official sanctioning of this behavior. This is not the case and I hesitate to apologize to everyone here knowing just how inadequate it will be.
James: I am of the opinion that your rants are not productive and are damaging PL. You have treated everyone who has a differing opinion with disrespect or at best, indifference. This is unacceptable.
Every single time you high jack a thread or start a new one to discuss Laserboy or format 3 a piece of what makes this board great, dies.
No, I don't care if you are right or wrong and at this point it does not matter, not in the slightest. Your actions are offensive and do not lend gravitas to your argument. Look, I respect what you are doing with Laserboy but I can not respect this "divide and conquer" attitude that you have taken and what you are doing to the forum here.
Sure, I can accept and even see some of your points as valid, but there are a couple problems with your crusade: It does not excuse you from being civil, there is too much collateral damage and if that wasn't enough: You are doing it in *my* house.
I do not condone this behavior and you must stop, now. No, this is not a request. It seems that just about every thread I check here has been derailed to another "Format 3" or "Laserboy is the best!" argument. I do not like receiving complaints to that effect and members of the board leaving because of your actions. This is so far beyond unacceptable that it borders on malicious.
There is no point in arguing with me about this and there is nothing you can do to change my mind much in the same way there is nothing you can do to change peoples minds about your software. I am finished with this nonsense and since I hold the keys my opinion is the only one that matters. If you want to rant about how you have been slighted: take it somewhere else because PL is not and will not be used as your personal soapbox.
Pay *very* close attention:
I am giving you yet another chance here and *many* people, myself included, rightfully consider that to be a mistake. If I find any of your future comments objectionable, bothersome, combative or even slightly annoying; I will Clue-by-four your account and wipe every single one of your posts from the database, period.
These are my terms; they are not negotiable.
James, I'm just teasing you. But this whole discussion popping everywhere on PL has put me off. When I see good use for LB I'll start using it. At this time I'm too caught up in my own programming for the amount of 'laser-time' that I have. When someone posts a LB-format-3 file I need to hack my code to be able to load it - that makes sharing a hassle.
-- over and out --
This is my last post on the PL.
When the admin starts throwing around phrases like "You are doing it in *my* house", I know I have no future here.
I am who I am. I can not be me with a filter. I have no way to know what that filter is.
I'd much rather be known as the guy who wrote useful software and gave it away for free, and insisted that people know the truth about it than the guy who threatened to wipe someone else off the pages of history.
If anyone wants to stay in contact with me about LaserBoy it will have to be either by email, phone or mail.
Please note: If you contact me by email, you will have to reply to an automatically generated mail server response. This does two things. It proves your return address is correct and that you seem to be a human who can read.

Special thanks to all of you who have provided great suggestions and support!
This is not a stunt. Please don't expect me to reply on the PL.
