    Default Blanking and termination

I've been reading a bit around here about blanking, and had recently realized that blanking has more to do with power to the laser itself, turning it on and off. I guess TTL turns it on and off, while I'm not sure what analog blanking does.

Is there a term for mechanical blanking where the beam is blocked, and then unblocked?

Also, another question is how are laser beams terminated in laser shows? Do they have some black container or so the beams go into?

I've read some of the literature on ILDA's site and it's interesting. But I haven't gotten to these aspects I questioned.

Blanking is a generic term that refers to any control of the laser beam in a show - or indeed any other application by optical, mechanical or electronic means.
TTL as you stated is simply on and off whereas analogue allows the power of the device to be controlled hopefully in a linear fashion so in a show you can fade a colour in or out. This obviously allows for more control over the available pallette. with RGB and 8bit colour control you have - theoretically at least - 256x256x256 colours. In reality this will be a lot less as the lasers will not ramp up and down uniformly or in a linear fashion. TTL only gives you 7 colours. RGB, R, G, B, RG, RB, GB, and all off

If you need to ask the question 'whats so good about a laser' - you won't understand the answer.

Thanks for the info. I researched and found this site that has info on blanking: http://www.onestoplasershop.com/info.htm#5

I'll be reading that for a bit. Your response did answer the question I had in the other thread about dimming.
