    Cool

Dude - your Laser Harp video made the front page of DIGG!

    Here's the Engadget link.

And here's the Digg discussion that goes with it. (585 diggs and counting!)

    Way to go!

    Thumbs up

Nice job man. You have gained some fame. I was sitting here at work yesterday and someone sent me a youtube link for a laser harp. I watched it and moved on to the next bit of work I had. Later on I saw your thread here and noticed the pictures you have here look just like the "stage" that was used in the video. My co-worker was curious if you made that synthisizer?

how does a laser harp work, i dont fully understand?

how does breaking the beam trigger the noise?

theres no sensor above the beam?

    Andy - That's the challenge..

I first saw the 'frameless' harp in 1985 and thought it was a fake. It's literally taken me till now to work out how it's done.

Basically it's a big barcode scanner, like you see in the supermarket - only this one makes a slightly more interesting sound than 'beep'.

I've been asked by a gazillion people to draw up proper plans, with shopping lists and schematics. I don't have a huge amount of time (wife is just about to have a baby) - but if I put something together I might charge a small fee (~$10) - and put it in her college fund.

I'm very interested in sensors themselves and sending data to MIDI.
