Andy, the grounding in your picture looks suspicious and I'm concerned that if you replaced the diodes you'll just blow them again. I put a piece of mica in between the brass housing that I have and the aluminum to prevent any problems. If I need to touch the brass housing I wear rubber gloves.

Wait, they broke when you mounted them in the scanner? Does your scanner have a conductive optical table or base? If so you certainly will blow any new diode you put in there because connecting the diode package straight to ground with the die4drive means you put 5V with NO current limitation through it. That's why you need to electrically (but not thermally) isolate the diode.

Also, if the two diodes have their grounds connected it means the full output current of both die4drives can go through the same diode. That is also very bad, because if you have two diodes with different voltage drops or impedances you will probably also fry them.

the die4laser drive dvr is + for TTL and ground for - ???
DRV is where you connect your (positive) signal and GND is for Gnd (it doesn't really support differential input).

Sending stuff from Sweden isn't very different from getting them from someone in the UK by the way. It might take an extra day, but I've received stuff from the UK in just one day from ordering it. Customs and stuff shouldn't be a problem either since we're both in EU.

yeah they are/were insulated from the alum board.

i had two wires come off the driver so im guessing they touched something and pop.

I have a couple of 636 nm Mitu diodes 150 mW ea that will cost -L- 150. USD= 300.. each.. The diode case is NOT at gnd or hot potential.. They take fancy optics to tame them them tho... .. or Ill sell my homemade laser for 800 usd.. Analog mod.. havent tested the speed and it's.. n/m I cant part w/ it yet.. .. sorry ..
I hate lasers too.. I popped one of these.. and gave one away.. aaarrrggghhh..

I know what you mean.. I spent myself getting a decent beam on that red one and now I'm too tired to put my projector back together :/ Sometimes I think I may give up lasers alltogether for a while.. but.. nahhh . the bug whom bites will soon be back.... ; o )
