    Hi all

    The banthai beast rises again

im just adding a bit to this thread ... after a request for some info from ollie

and its quite usefull info cos i never really explained it in my posts

ollie has a flight case for his projector like mine as was wanting some info on how i mounted it to the tripod

the tripod i purchased is a good heavy duty ( steel ) so its also heavy

same as this one on ebay

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Skytec-180-543...742.m153.l1262

the mounting parts i sketched up and had made by an engineering company

the round / square post was made from aluminium and the case plate was made from steel

the plate has a box section about 2" long that fits over the post and i had to allow clearence inside the case for this

    here some fotos to explain

    all the best ... Karl

    Hey Banthai,
Just curious what your losses were in the projector after the NEW optics? Was it still a similar amount or did you gain quite a bit of power back?

yes after playing with the angle and new dichros i improved the losses

    But still down by 200mW

but if you taske into account each mirror and dichro you can lose between 2 and 5 % ( say 3% on average )

Green 560mw passes through 2 dichros then 90deg mirror then 2 galvo mirrors

    560 - 3% -3% -3% -3% -3% = 480mw

    *********************

RED 660mw reflects off 90deg mirror relects off dichro passes through blue dichro the 90deg mirror then 2 galvo mirrors

    660mw -3% -3% -3% -3% -3% -3% = 550mw
    ***********************

Blue 153mw bounces of mirror reflects off dichro bounces off 90deg mirror the 2 galvo mirrors

    BLUE 153mw - 3% -3% -3% -3% -3% = 131mw

Prior to optics 1373mw after about 1180

the average shows that after losses it should be about 1161

so im happy with that .... also my next improvement will be to get either 1 wat or 500mw of 440 blue as at trhe moment the projector is abit red green heavy

    all the best .... Karl

Very nice. Built like the proverbial... And the Banthai Beast has to be the best name I've ever heard for a laser. Sounds like it ought to be decked out with Yakuza designs in acrylic spray.

Well the Banthai beast Raises from its cave once again

as mentioned in a thread elsewhere i recently upgraded my Blue to a 250mW unit from rob/bridge at lasewave

    a fannytastic unit outputting 310mw

i thought it would be an easy upgrade into the beast

    HOW WRONG WAS I

as this unit uses the next highest module in the range i did not have enough clearence in the case

    this is th old case

so this left me with a problem ..... i could not lower the plate as the drivers are mounted underneath

the only solution was to look at a slighty higher case

because on the old case everything slides in and out through the front it has been awkward to adjust anything without removing the internals

so this time i looked for a 19" 4U Flight case with top lid and front and back lid

as the top section always has extra space for a mixerrack it would be ideal

i found a case on ebay

    see here
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=190267090840

    which was ideal

the only problem was that the top lid had no catches so when removing the front and back the top beacame loose

this was fixed with the purchase of some mini butterfly catches from Adam hall

After fitting the tripod stand mounting plate in the base and the catches the case started to take shape

Next stage was to mount the plate .... which picked up on the exsisting holes on the front plate

and made the support brackets on the rear

You will note that i left the long threaded rods in the plate as they are used as support feet, and this makes it easy to work on both sides when out of the case

well jst waiting to fit the blank panels on the back ... do some foam sealing

and the beast is back .... all 1.5 watts of her

and here she is fast asleep
