Did it with inkscape, the 'better dxf export' plugin, and ILD SOS. A tutorial can be posted if there is interest.

Very interesting. Do you mind posting the original Inkscape file?
I would like to feed Garfield to my SVG converter to see how he comes out

    Sure, PM sent.

Here is a further optimized version with more curve compensation. 1100 points, 27fps. No doubt it will look distorted on your computer screen, but when displayed with the right blanking offset for your scanners (a simple thing) it should look great. This version is optimized more to the level of rotoscoped hand-drawn laser art, but it was done automatically with ILD SOS.

Thanks, got it and will play with it tonight. Don't worry I'm not trying to market OLA in your thread. If I need to do comparisons it will be purely of 'academic' interest and I will start a new thread

No problem, Zoof. ILD SOS's bread and butter is being an excellent ilda converter and optimizer, along with being able to do 3D anmations with 3DS Max. It can do single frames from illustrator and inkscape well too, as shown here, but that's bonus

I'd prefer to just get beedback on the frame. Not many of PLs big posters post frames or real laser show material. I think if more forum members concentrated on creating and sharing new things there would be a lot less b.s. and that goes for the 'newbies' and 'big-mouths' too! Whenever you feel like posting a rant, make a frame or two and post that instead!
