Question Why did Pango pick their name?

    Just curious.
On the Pango site there is a description of the Pangolin (creature), but why did they name their company after one?

Perhaps something to do with it being strong and robust

Funny enough I sent that very question to Bill a couple of days ago. If he tells me why, I will pass the message on...

If you keep the Tip of the day on, there is a Tip that states "why"... but I forget and turned the Tips off. I should have taken a screen shot.

Its a pretty neat story behind it, I think they were already working on starting a business and were trying to come up with the name for it. One night, several folks hanging around, Bill, Patrick Murphy and others I think, were watching some type of learning channel type show that had to do with the pangolin. The next morning, jokingly, one of them said, "Why not call our new company Pangolin?!" And the rest is history. I'm sure I butchered the story pretty good, but it went something like that!

To hear Bill tell the story, there was a considerable amount of alcohol involved, and I believe it was Patrick that started the whole thing. Anyway, the story goes that they had watched a fascinating documentary about a very weird creature called a "Pangolin". After the documentary show ended, they decided to watch a few re-runs of old 1960's TV shows.

Due to the alcohol, the show "My 3 sons" was instantly re-christened as "My 3 Pangolins", and of course, this was deemed to be endlessly funny. Then "My Favorite Martian" came on, and once again it was spontaneously re-named "My Favorite Pangolin". This was greeted with more rounds of laughter. (Alcohol has a way of making things seem a lot more funny than they really are.)

Now fast forward to the next day, when they're talking about what to name the company. Everyone remembers the Pangolin documentary, and the "My Favorite Pangolin" jokes from the night before, so in a flash of insight, they chose "Pangolin" as the name of the company. The rest is history.
