eclipse a go-go

we had a pretty excellent solar eclipse this evening. i was in the 84% totality zone, which made it well worth spending some quality time in the 100+ degree heat.

i shoot digital these days. i wouldn't be concerned about burning up some film, but pointing delicate electronic light sensing organs sunwards seems like bad karma.

i don't have any sort of trustworthy solar filters.

i rigged a quick and dirty solar projector out of an old spotting scope, a tripod, some cardboard, and a chunk of sheet metal that i hit with cheap flat black spray paint. then i camped out in the desert and let the moon do its thing.

i was not disappointed.

Most-righteous, Mr C... All I had time for was a quickie pinhole / lens-rig and some black mat-board.. but, have a shutterbug-friend up SF-way, and he was set to do some 'proper' shots.. hope to see his captures, maybe tomorrow. Will-post anything of sumlimnity...

It occurs to me you could make some rather 'neat-o' p-shop mash-ups with those shots, layered, w/ some of yer lumia-scapes, and 'playing' modes off each-other.. Or not..

PS - Got a 'collaborational-pro-jekt' I wanna chat with ya on.. call me up when yer free, oh mañana-ish, perhaps late-eve time...
