Pretty much every club in San Francisco uses Mackie SRM450s or the bigger ones whose name I forget as main speakers. There are a few that use JBLs, but the indestructibility- as well as improved sound quality of the SRM450v2 speakers- have tended to select against the more fragile JBLs.

I can't see them lasting long when some douchebag DJ blows a bunch of clipping through them at maximum power :/

Just about any factory made speaker is a sad mix of cheap short-cuts and compromises. Build your own! Make them so big and heavy you have to assemble them in place and you can never move them!

Those need external amps, which means we need at least another flight case of gear... big nono when we already have all this laser stuff to move around!

I also can't see them putting up with being dropped down stairs, off loading docks, and (on one memorable occasion) out of a window without breaking.

    Sometimes physical design really matters

I have been a speaker designer since about 1980. It is one of the very reasons why I know about audio... sound cards... using sound cards to measure speaker system componenets... LaserBoy.

I have some stuff in my head. I want to make a set of objects that can each be easily carried by a single human unit to make a big stack of not-so-heavy-objects to become a nice REAL line source array; with physical phase alignment; built in class D amps, active crossovers, tri-amp system. BLOW YOUR F***ING BRAINS OUT with very low distortion.

    James.
