Not quite up to speed on da lingo of da kidz and "throw down" sounds too much like "throw up" for my liking.
I assumed it was something DJ'ish but luckily we have t'internet to clarify things for us.

They even have a specific meaning for a throw down in MIAMI.

MIAMI DEFINITION:
1. to show sumone wassup in a fight..to fight
2. put in money to cap bud or drugz
1. throw it down homeboii...
2. nigga throw down at least 10 dollarz so0 we can cap a gerb

Oh dear. It all sounds rather like the rotters engaged in a bout of fisticuffs.

Soforene: "Throw Down" also means to put on your best performance. (As in, "We're about to throw down and you'll know just what to do" from the old-school rap song "Word-up" from the mid 1980's) It has it's roots in the old saying "to throw the gauntlet down", when DJ's (or more commonly, dancers) would face off in friendly competitions and the winner was the one that performed better, according to the crowd's reaction.

Can't always believe everything you read on the urban dictionary website you know...
