Should easy be ready for Surfleet at this rate I can't wait - haven't seen a single coherent photon since the last meet after getting stuck away with work and in need of a serious fix and this meet is shaping up to be a classic

Hey man! Try using PTFE or silicon insulated wire for the rebuild, much easier to work with and higher temperature range! It's a bit pricier than pvc but if I were you I'd try it out! Might be able to send you some offcuts if you want?

I would certainly be interested Mr Robot

Everything in the PSU is now painted/cleaned and ready to be re-built. I am going to try and replace as much wiring as possible and have done away with the 2x terminal strips on the back and am wiring straight into the head socket. The old wiring was as dodgy as a white transit van but it's all going to be terminated properly this time and wiring doubled up, as needed, that goes to the head.
A few more photo's of how the re-build is coming on:

An update on how it's all going, the front plate is soon to be built up, wired and fitted. Then there is just the back multiplug, mains connections and case top and bottom to sort out and it should be nearing completion.

I will be doing the head recon after the UKLEM in April.

A very Pro job there Jim.
I wonder if it came out the factory looking as smart?

    Thanks Chaps

Well, I finally got around to firing it up and got smoke from the Driver card
Traced the problem to me fitting the connection terminal slot, that the driver card slots into, the wrong way around, top to bottom, in it's holder so basically all the terminals on the driver card were reversed on switch on!
    Not good!
Found an IN4001, a 5.1V Zener and a 2N2905A transistor to be blown. I've replaced the 2x diodes and am awaiting the arrival of the transistor. I also replaced the IC on the card as a precaution as I had one off of an old Light card I had and checked all the other components.
With these components U/S the PSU would fire up, the filament would light and the HT would spark and 340VDC between the Anode and the cathodes but no plasma.
