Today i took one of those cute lil' MG modules and stuck a 636nm 150mw diode in it hehe..
-Thanks Y'all for turning me on to Laser Ben's posting of these lil' gems-

What about the beam?! More pics! Can you get a nice small round dot and a well collimated beam with it?
If source is cr#p the beam is cr#p. If you collimate it it'll be too big to fit onto galvos.
I hired an Italian guy to do my wires. Now they look like spaghetti!
-Yeah here's a pic of the spot on the wall.. about 8mm round @ 14 ft..
Stays pretty tight @ 100 feet
Too big for the galvo mirrors. yeah, guess I'll have to go for the big ones..
Heh-- No 30K for me..but IDC...

Hey!!!
Glad to see that it works well!!! I'll have to stick a pair of the open can diodes together!
CLICKY!!!

Yeah, working good-
Thanx Ben!
You got a good eye for nifty gadgets- Please keep posting 'em

These things got a Peltier under the LD housing -- any idea of what current? At about 1.2V it gets pretty cold, I dont want to blow it up Thinking about a series resistor. They also have some sort of a temp sensor imbedded in the housing...
Left pic- Peltier seen under the lens case, right pic- experiment with Peltier junction on heatsink secured with goose- grease.

Ok- Heres the beamspot at better then 100 feet, along side of LaserWave's perfect beam profile. Mine's slightly rectangular, but the 636 project's getting there.. wouldnt mind finding a few more of those MG modules, heh... Ben?? .. and maybe selling a few. The aperature beam size is too big for the high-speed galvos tho.. but wtf ..
Very nice Steve! 8mm @14 ft... how big is it at the aperature? 1 foot? It can't be that big. You souldn't have too much of a problem getting that on a smaller mirror. What it the loss on those optics?
Love, peace, and grease,
allthat... aka: aaron@pangolin
About a foot and a half ..
seriously tho..
It's 4 x 9 mm at the aperature.
Losses- hmmm- probably 50% :\
maybe less.. still havent gotten around to getting a power meter
so its hard to tell.
