Lightbulb SELEM presentation topics - discussion

    Hey folks!

Well, SELEM 2008 is fast approaching, so I'd like to get some input from you all on what you'd like to see this year at SELEM.

I've been talking privately with a few people, and one thing that keeps coming up is the fact that our Laser Enthusiast Meetings don't have much structure. Several people have asked that we set aside some time for special presentations on a wide range of topics. I think this is a great idea, but I'd like some input on exactly *which* topics we'd like to cover.

Bill Benner will be at SELEM again this year, and so will Hayden Hale. They are both willing to participate in these special presentations. Steve Roberts has also volunteered to give a presentation, and so has James Lehman. We are still trying to recruit other speakers (Patrick Murphy, for one!), so there may be additional topics available as the guest list grows. But for now, here are some of the topics we're thinking about:

    General Laser Safety
Advanced Laser Safety - Audience Scanning
    Scanner Tuning
Scanner History and Theory of Operation
    Using Pangolin's Showtime software
    Using Pangolin's Live!Pro software
    Ion Laser Alignment
    Using LaserBoy software
    Solid State Laser Theory
    Practical Wiring for your Projector

So how about it? Do you have a topic you'd like to learn more about that isn't on the list? Let's talk about it! Is there a topic on the list above that you don't care about? Let's talk about it! We need to discuss these topics and decide which ones we'd like to see and hear more about at SELEM. Once we've gotten some feedback, we can select the most popular 4 or 5 topics. Those will be the one's that will be presented at SELEM 2008.

who would like "Practical optics , FS mirrors, types of mirrors, dichros, cubes, lumias , beam positions and cleaning and mounting them" ?

I'd also like to do a 2 minute one on "low cost light weight professional projector housings for safety and peace of mind"

I could probably give you some good advice on the phone. I'm no expert, but I have learned a few things that make it go a lot better.

Technically speaking, it is part of the LaserBoy story, as a modified sound card is part of the working system.

Adam can attest to me not doing well over the phone... I need to see someone doing it.

OK. I'll bring some stuff for that too, even if it's just to show you. I bet there will be others there who can show me some things.
