    Exclamation Petawatt laser - I want one!

    Just noticed this: The University of Rochester, NY is upgrading their "Omega" fusion research laser. The new Omega EP (Extended Performance) will be able to reach Petawatt power levels. (That's a million-billion watts, or 1,000,000,000,000,000 watts!)

    So, how do I go about having one installed in my living room? You think they take Mastercard or Visa?

    more than 1 Peta-Watt....
    Look what a cool hair-dry!!!....
    I think this is no matter about visa or Mastercard.
    I'm rather thinking: what a kind of PSU it need?
    Maybe two or three of largest U.S. nuke's electrical farms... could be enough?

    Hi Steve;

    Yeah, but just think: If the technology works, you could use the power from fusion to keep the thing running!

    Sure would be cool to see it fired, wouldn't it?

    Even if it doesn't work out so well, he won't get any complaints!

    Ray;

    I'd love to have them come to SELEM for a demo. However, as their laser isn't exactly portable, I think they'd rather that we move SELEM to their research facility! (Hmmm... Now there's an idea!)

    James;

    Ever see the movie "Real Genius"? I'm thinking "Crossbow Project" material here...

    Maybe they can find an old useless satellite and take it out at exactly Midnight on Friday to kick off the weekend. I bet we could see it if we knew where to look.

    Nope, never saw Real Genius.

    James.
