    Ok so I guess 'switching' is the keyword... so any kind/brand of 3v switching power supply should be ok then, right? I am going to order one and I will let you all know if that solves the problem. If I still get a pulsing effect due to the ripple from the power supply then I will add a capacitor as you suggested and see if that helps. Thank you so much for your help.

    Just an update... sorry for the late reply. The switching power supply took care of nearly all the pulsing effect. I added the filter capacitor but I did not notice any further change so I took it back out. A human eye can't really see it but the camera still picks up a little of the 'bicycle wheel' effect. Thank you all for this thread and for your advice.
