I am wondering how many of you play around with laser induced plasma channels. And what kind of laser frequency and power would be suitable for creating them.

Steve Roberts (Mixed Gas) has worked with a few lasers that are capable of producing plasma in air. Contact him for details.
These are not the sort of lasers you'll find in the average hobbyist's garage, however. Large frame CO2 lasers, Q-switched YAG's, and other very high power and/or pulsed lasers are the norm.
And with lasers of that caliber, you don't really "play" with them. (Much the same way as you don't "play" with a loaded gun.)

Not what I ment by "play around" but I understand your meaning. And there are plenty of rednecks around here in Texas who would disagree about playing with a loaded gun.
