There is one thing I have noticed.
The mirror I use to bounce the beam from the laser to the galvos is making the beem wider, its like two dots next to eachother.
That makes the dot bigger than the galvo mirror and causes some light leekage.
This is a very cheap mirror I just pulled from a broken mirror I had.
Do I need a special type mirror to get the nice round dot that the laser creates?

Great job on the laser build, looks great (and congrats on the engagement)

I assume that when you refer to the cheap mirrow that is just household bathroom mirror?

This type of mirror will create two dots, one from the mirror substrate on the back of the glass and one from the front surface of the glass.

You'll need to get a dichroic mirror (as used on the scanners) or the cheaper front surfaced mirrors

Very nice work there and congratulations on the engagement!

Are you using a front side mirror? If not the larger beam might be explained by internal reflection in the mirror. It could also be slightly curved reflective surface.

It would be best to use a dichroic mirror optimized for 532nm and 45°. The same type that is used to combine beams of different colors can be used for this. They have much lower losses than normal mirrors.

    HI

Superb work with your moving head laser !

What you need is a front coated mirror the same as the galvo`s use.

    Thankyou all for your reply.
I will have to look for a new mirror =)
That will probably give me even more light output from the laser.
    Less dangerous leekage beems.

I think this is one of the coolest projects I've seen in a bit.

Good job on all of the engineering. You should make another one so you can have two working together in visual stereo.

That's awesome. Was it foggy out? The air is completely full of particulate? Or is that rain?

There was no fog, but it was raining alot! so all the particles in the air is raindrops.
