Default RGB club - new member! :P

So i made my plunge into the depths of new waters!

won my first RGB laser projector of fleabay - will do a review on it as soon as i can too

it is a Laserworld Proline 750 RGB

    150mW/473nm blue; 150mW/532nm green; 350mW/635nm red

    50k scanners

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=024

would be nice if it had a memery card access so it could it run frames without laptop/cpu

really hoping its what i'm after and looking forward to the light!

so next is to get the software (man this venture aint cheap!) - any recommendations? i need it for designing logos for companies and events etc

I'd be interested in a review of this Laser once you start to play with it.
The fact that they call it a 750 mw unit but only guarantee 600 mw concerns me a little.

Whilst some of the Laser suppliers on here supply units that exceed the quoted output (Bonjour Monsiuer Pont), I wonder if the Germans (they bombed my chippy you know!) are quite so generous.

You'll probably need to get a matched controller and software.

You might want to give serious consideration to the Pangolin FlashBack 3 (FB3) evaluation kit - it can give you full computer control OR DMX control of custom stored graphics OR stand-alone operation of the custom stored graphics! You'll find lots of happy FB3 users on this site!!

Here's a link to the hardware:

And here's a link to the FREE software suite you can get for the FB3:

i was considering buying there own laserworld show editor 2008 since i guess it would be fully compatable with the unit - but i thought its best ask here with you guys...

anyone had experience with this software? i like the sound of the new trace functions - i will cetainly check out pangolin

also when it comes to the power the manual i d/l off there website has different values to the ebay listing here is what the manual says....

    11. TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Power supply: AC 220V-240V, 50/60 Hz
    DMX 512: 24 channels
    Condition temperature: -10°C ~ +35°C
    Input signal bandwidth: 0~1000Hz
    X/Y axes beam scanning optical angle: 0 ~ ±30°
    Signal input power: -5V~+5V
    Power consumption: 120W
    Working mode: ILDA, DMX512
Optical power: guaranteed: 500mW; typical: 600mW RGB (white)
    100mW/473nm blue; 150mW/532nm green; 250mW/650nm red
    Laser classification: 4
    Weight: 20 kg
    Dimensions: 670 x 380 x 270 mm (L x W x H)

only giving 500mW guaranteed??? and the red is 650nm????? hmmmmm maybe this is for an older model, will give them a call and ask and let u all know too!

Ok peeps and laserists - quick update on my venture in laserism

bought a copy of Phoenix Live! software to use my RGB laser with ILDA - pretty good so far but a few bugs that need sorting out, but i will try and get a review of it once i have learned its workings more

BACK to my LASERWORLD 750Proline RGB

as in other posts in hijacked a bit i mentioned the power was down by over 50% of what i was promised in the deal i got from flea bay

but i have used it for some projections onto buildings for some events so far and its done well considering its underpowered
which aint a bad thing since its classed as a 3B atm and not 4 (which means getting certain training here)

used it in a club last saturday and for some reason the blue was not working, arse!!! but when testing the next few days it worked again.

although the blue is very grainy on the screen/wall but matches well with the red and green, i want a replacment blue now.

so i contacted Laserworld a few weeks ago about this (before the blue went) and they told me blah blah that its the right power and does not need to come back etc etc
and they even said if i send it back to get tested then they were SURE (already) it was the right power, when i mentioned i was coming in person to witness their tests
their attitude seemed to change a bit - now i'm very lucky since i only live about 1 hour away from them...

i have a meeting with laserworld next week so i will let u know what happens

but after some more testing today, i realise that my analog RGB is only analog with R & B - the green is not! damn damn this saga keeps getting more f**ked up

I would like to see how LW deal with this before i really start ranting and raving but currently my advice to anyone buying laserworld systems,
I would use a BIG BIG barge pole, unless ur in Germany and u can go see them to rectify any 'errors' made.
There are some good German purchasing laws in my favour too since u bought it here.

    Wish me luck gang!

A lot of power is lost between the laser modules to the output of the galvos in the optics. So, the modules may very well be outputting the advertised power.

can u give me a working example of how much is lost please??

i'm susposed to have a minimum of 600mW thats what was promised

the white (ish) beam was measured at 210mW

do u really lose 400mW from the optics? what would be the point in using optics like that?

unfortunatey with some of the "off the shelf" laser projectors, you get what you pay for.

i have said this before, and ill say it again. and Majorlee, please understand i am NOT putting you down or your decision to purchase this laser down. but i think people are expexting WAAAAY too much off of most of these "pre-fab" lasers.

when you pay much less for a product, whether it is a laser or a dinner buffet, OF COURSE the quality of what is being sold is going to be sacrificed.

the modules in your unit most likely put out ~600-700mW WITHOUT ANY OPTICS and at PRIME FIRE UP TIME.

meaning, take lasers out of projector, fire them up one at a time. let them warm up for ~2-3 minutes THEN measure their output. i would guess they prob put out what they are specified to put out.

NOW- put these back in your projector. throw in some pretty low grade optics (most cheap optics, ESPECIALLY DICHROS will prob lose approx 20% off of their reflection surfaces. Some have been measured at over a 40-50% loss!!!!! ) fire up the system and PRAY for a good alignment. i bet the mounts dont leave too much room for alignment?!!? alignment is a MAJOR power loss also. if those beams are not PREFECTLY aligned you will lose MEGA power!!!!!

fire it ALL up....measure power after about 5-10 minutes. i would be willing to bet the farm that you prob arent getting even 50% of what you should be getting. i.e.- your ~600-700mW RGB laser projector is prob more like a 300-400mW RGB projector.

this is why when you purchase the items yourself, and you go with quality products you will end up spending prob about double what you paid for this unit.

DISCLAIMER- Majorlee and EVERYONE else. again, i am in NO WAY putting the hobbyist projector down or saying theyre terrible or youre terrible for purchasing them! they are GREAT begining systems to learn off of and have fun with! HOWEVER- you cant expect to pay "X" dollars for a hobbyist level RGB laser and compare it to a system made professionally with quality parts and care and have it be comparable. it just doesnt work that way.

with all of that being said, i would like to know the outcome of your meeting with LW. and to see what their "tests" prove or disprove about the unit.

I guess this is more about interpretation - Monsiuer Pont as you call him rates at a given spec but his lasers exceed this value. Clearly the lasers in this projector also exceed the value but I guess the 750mW is only a posibility whereas 600 is definite they should only be selling this laser as a 600mW - anything over and above this is a bonus. This would be like bridge selling a 500mW laser that does 600mW by advertising it as 600mW and statig in the small printthat 500mW is guaranteed - which we know he would never do. From various comments Ive read this does sort of follow the pattern of scruples that Laserworld seem to promote - which i a bad thing for the industry.

And for my 2p I would buy Mamba - I think the Laser World software was based on an ancient version of Mamba - though dont quote me on this. The main drawback of FB3 is that you would be in breach of the licence if you were to use it to perform commercially with the system. Mamba will allow you to do all you need, is very simple to use, will allow you to use a choice of hardware solutions and is ok for commercial use.
