where can I can a link to the Sound Card Dac? It does seem like it would be a fun project though. Also, does anyone have a link for the FB3?? I have 12K Scanners.. Do you guys think they will be adequate enough for text and some on simple graphics? I have some pre-made graphics on my projector, but they are pretty lame,

    Here's Pangolin's link to the FB3:

Also search the forums here on PL - there are quite a few links that talk about it! I've covered quite a few details about the card in some of my posts!

Here's a link to the old LaserBoy website:

    http://akrobiz.com/laserboy

It has not been updated since 2005, but the information is approximately the same.

The big difference is that it now can be compiled and will run in just about any OS.

Look here to find the latest version:

    http://hacylon.case.edu/laser/LaserBoy/

This zip comes with a precompiled Windows exe and all of the code in C++ !!!

You don't need any sound card to start using LaserBoy. There is a lot to it, so you might want to start working with it now. Feel free to ask questions.

I have been talking to drlava on the phone. I don't know how to lay stuff out in a pc board CAD program, but he does. I do it the old fashioned way, in DXF! (Oh well... at least you can open it in LaserBoy!) Anyway, I thought it would be nice to have a simple kit that is as easy to build as possible. That is to say, with through-hole components. So I've put together a drawing and did the foil routing by hand (or in my head). The design is almost exactly the same as the one Dean did, that has been posted on my website since 2005. It's just packed together a little closer, because I don't have to depend on a pre made copper proto-board. The only real difference is the power supply is based on only the +5VDC you get from the USB connection. A DC/DC converter has been added to make +/-9VDC to power the op-amps. I am waiting on a couple of samples from the mfg so I can put all the parts together and test the real thing with a real USB sound card.

    Hi Instinct,

Or see all the other DAC's on the market: www.hobby-lasers.startpagina.nl

For example, the Easylase DAC !!!
It can be used with a lot of free software like Spaggetti, HE-Laserscan, Mamba and the new Popelscan 4.2.

The FB3 DAC can only be used with FB3 software.

This is a schemo of one correction amp. You need one of these for every channel (6). This, of course is not the DAC. The DAC is the sound card. This amp is designed to correct for the DC offset voltage you will find when you remove the DC decoupling caps on the sound card. It also provides gain to meet the voltage requirements of your laser system's scanners and color modulation inputs.
