Default Popelscan 4.2: New (old) Laser Show Software

    Hi,
maybe you remember Guido's Popelscan Software? Guido released the source code of it a while ago so I was able to create a new improved Version of Popelscan. It now supports RGB color and curve drawing. Support for the old LPT DAC is gone, instead the bILDA and EasyLase DACs are supported.

Please try it, im listening for your feedback: :-)

There are also about a dozen laser shows for download at www.popelscan.de.

    Arrow Popelscan 4.1 vs Kermitscan

    Hi Afrob,

    Nice done!
I heard that www.kermitscan.nl has changed the old Popelscan to analog blanking. Is this your next step too?

    Hi Audrey,
    thanks for your reply!

Analog blanking as next step? It's already in there, although a bit hidden. Popelscan had a color named "Blank" which is now replaced by "Other". When you click this option a color selection dialog will open for 24 Bit RGB Color.

I think I smoked my popelscan DAC a while ago... I may have to pick up one of Norm's to try this.

    Thumbs up Wow

Yes, a bit hidden but WOW, 24 bit color! Great news for starters and sleepy Popel-users.
It must be a lot of work to decode that Popel source code .

Do you have other plans in the near future with this software?
I mean, new features, new functions, other DAC's, Help files, other languages, .....

yeah, it really took me forever to decode it. Well, was a nice excercise at code de-obfuscation. :-) In the end it really is a 98% rewrite of the software. Going from Delphi to C++ I was not able to reuse the GUI and had to recreate it. Also the programm logic is significantly changed.

You're not honestly asking me to write help files? This application is all self-explaining and I am busy all day saving the world. ;-)

I'm probably going to work on the effects next. I'd like to have the possibility to move/rotate Objects from the MOTList-Timeline.

    Thumbs up New PopelScan features

    Hi Robin,

Yes, maybe you are right. It's easy-to-learn-software.
I asked it because the help menu says '...more to come...'

And I think most of the Popel users do not know that the Fogger output is acually at the RTS pin of the RS232 COM output. Maybe you can write that in the help menu too.

In the past I have sent Guido a lot of suggestions about Poplescan.
At that time he already decided to stop the 3.1 project, so no nice features after that. If I still have those emails, I will post them here.
Maybe you can pick something out of it.

    Keep up the good work!

    Audrey

I was joking. Of course I need to write more documentation for the help function. A task I don't like that much...
There are some (IMO) counter-intuitve things in the GUI that I want to clean up first before writing further documentation. For instance the drawing functions like "Grid"/"Snap to Grid" are mixed up with the output correction functions like "Invert X/Y" "Swap XY". I'd rather move these settings somewhere else, together with the "gain" and "max. intensity" sliders.

It isn't anymore. You can choose a DMX or TTL output channel for the fogger with the "Fog Control Device / Channel" Combo Box.

Just uploaded a new Popelscan graphics laser show:
    http://www.popelscan.de/download/sho...%20-%20MfG.zip
Music: Die Fantastischen Vier - MfG 3:42
This is a popular german hip hop song. The lyrics contain a long list of 3-letter acronyms the germans often use. Enjoy.

It would be nice if the image could be positioned. Right now it can be sized but you can offset it to move it up or down or left or right. So, my image ends up playing on my bookshelf.
