same here ....
early eighties we were watching hawkwind at the theatre Royal in norwich .... maybe 82-83 .... they had a laser but i talked to the "laser guy" after the show and he told me it was a 300mW ALC
the desk was an hybrid analogue /digital desk but with a sequencer so it stepped through various analogue patterns preset by a bank of pots ... i also vividly remember a scope built into the rack monitoring the output... then we ( our band ) decided we need a laser so we aquired a 30mW HeNe with 3 mirrors attached to motors, the tube was about 3 ft long and i helped build the power supply with all those voltage doubleing networks .... and i got a few belts off itbut it was worth it .... as everyone was talking about the norwich band with a laser even though it was only powerfull enough to project spirograph patterns on a white sheet
but that has kept me involved in lasers ever since
its amazing now as it seems lasers have been around for eternity .... but back in the early eighties it was still new technology... and for joe public it still had the WOW factor
good to see that the hawks n lasers got you into it to .... those hippies have a lot to answer for
all the best .... Karl
