Does anyone know of a complete shutter and driver assembly, bit like the STP8 but with a gravity and spring return rotary or plunger solenoid as opposed to a stepper motor?
GM20 and a simple driver?

I tried the electromagnet setup. It works OK during short workbench tests but fails at frequent use in humid, greasy environment of lasershow industry. Hazer oil sticks everywhere, glues dust and soon prevents moving parts from sliding. Either in on or off position. I'd suggest sticking to a flag idea. For that I like Ledex rotary solenoids, however even the ones designed for continuous operation (not every one is!) show a tendency to run hot, so an extra resistor with a switch is welcome at already-open-energized position.

Only 1 potential catch I can see with that design, using the guys specified parts.. The specified solenoid only has a 25% duty cycle, so if my thinking is correct, its not really suitable for continuous operation.. kind of like the ledex solenoids.
