Here in Mexico a 5000psi tank of laser mix gases is around $300 USD
i remember seing somwhere that a pair of 7.5° per step stepper could be doubled as a galvo scanner by biasing some coils, is this what kermit software refers to by the MOT2 ???, can something like this be used with Laserboy, im thinking of a very small workarea to engrave jewerly using my YAG laser

Well, you probably already know that it is common to move the material under the laser rather than move the laser beam with mirrors. I guess it's all in what you want to do. LaserBoy will allow you to draw an image or import a DXF drawing and turn that information into a wave file. When that wave is played through a DC modified sound card, it will give you the analog drive voltages for X and Y scanners. What you do with that is up to you! LaserBoy will let you do all sorts of things with speed and energy density. If it doesn't do what you need, I'll fix it!

When I was running my CO2 laser, I was renting a tank full of laser-mix for a few dollars a month. Contact your local welding gas supplier (like Holox). They should be able to fix you up. You'll probably have to BUY your regulator, though. It shouldn't be more than $60-$90...

There are TONS of posts about it. Basically the idea is this: If you tap into the sound card before the output decoupling caps, you can get a DC signal out of the DAC, but the whole signal is about 2.25VDC offset in the positive and it does not have enough gain to drive the scanners or the color mods. So an external amp was designed by my friend Dean, we call The LaserBoy Correction Amp, that allows you to mix a steady -5VDC into the signal to bring it down to center over zero volts and give it some gain.
