    Hi Loopee,

    Nice job.....

I believe the "all metal" construction helps tremendously with cooling.

In fact I have started to shut down some of my fans in my units as it all runs so cool... The noise of all these fans is a distraction.

I wont be shutting down the fans on the actual laser heads as they were put there by the manufacturer obviously.

Even my RGB which now has the 60k scanners and amps doesn't get hot
due I believe to the amount and area of aluminium (aluminum to you USA types)... weighs a ton though.

I have the same power lasers give or take. I am using one of Marconi's dual reds 660 @ 440mw.. absolutely fantastic colour (color .. USA) .
Cant beat them and so far bullet proof for very reasonable price.

Anyway well done and good luck with the rest of your project.

    Cheers

    That last photo looks like what we used to call "spaghetti" wiring ( no offense to the creator of the software of the same name) but it was a nightmare trying to trace from point A to B :{

Yeah, I first saw that picture in a forum where IT guys were talking about their worst job ever. Someone posted that picture, and everyone capitulated!

Imagine walking into that room and cutting 3 or 4 random cables in the middle, and then switching a few dozen other cable ends! You'd go mad trying to fix it...

Well atleast the wiring is new! Not like those realllyy old instalations that would have cables break once you move them :x

Looks fantastic. Can't wait to see the finished article with full white.

Pitts, and others, on the subject of fans, whilst I know nothing at all about building lasers, I have built a lot of PC's and something I know from that, is that the secret of building quiet is to use larger fans.

Most of the noise comes from the fans rotational speed. A larger fan rotates slower but still has a higher output and so is quieter. eg. In a case with a width able to accomodate 8 x 8cm fans, you could in theory fit 5 x 12 cm fans instead (provided there was enough room in the y dimension as well as the x and also enough room to accomodate any change in surround width). Its almost certain that the 12 cm fans would output more than twice the airflow of the 8cm fans if chosen carefully, but for a lot less noise.

Another thing to consider is the fact that there are specialist companies out there whose speciality is high flow, low noise fans.

Assuming that laser construction isn't that different to pc construction in theory, it may be worth on future builds looking to both physically bigger fans with slower rotation and also those with special bearings designed specially for low noise.

    Adam,

I'd like to take that to my local scrap merchant. I reckon at todays copper prices there's a projector or two sat right there.

    sorry

Did you have tu tune down any of the lasers?
i'm looking into laserpowerlevels for my LW lasers.

No, but I have performed the colour balance setup in LD2000

However saying that, even with Mamba I didn't need to adjust the power levels to get a fairly good white balance.
