Why is the format 3 header different than all the others?

If you don't see why we're talking about format 2 you don't get it. Format 2 and format 3 are almost exactly the same thing. Format 2 has been a part of the standard form many years.

For all the hate I get from you, it is well offset by the appreciation for my efforts.

Just so I get the last word in my thread of my own complete undoing....

If you started with someone who is completely skilled as a software engineer and made sure that person had no knowledge of ILDA, the file format, the long history, its implementation or any of the people involved and asked that person to examine a series of documents released to the public, over a period of time, that person would have to ask the same question.

Why was the header for format 3 first published to be uniform and then later changed?

That person would also clearly see that the change is bogus and makes no sense.

In the absence of any reasonable explanation, that person would conclude that it was broken in order to make it fail.

There are other peple who understand this too.

Oh my god, it's TRUE! You really DO believe that Format 3 was changed, specifically to break LaserBoy or the Format 3 itself. That's outright laughable!!

James, the technical committee consisted of 9 voting members and numerous other subscribers. Do you really think that a majority (i.e. 5 out of 9 members) of the technical committee, conspired to purposely change the format, only to throw you -- a non-ILDA member -- off the track?

James, this is all pretty Narcissistic. You keep asking the question why it was changed, I keep telling you the answer, but you refuse to accept it, because you believe your paranoid version of the answer must be the truth.

I keep every email that I have ever sent, or that I have ever received since around 1995. So I will tell you what. At the next Photon Lexicon gathering, wherever both you are and I are, I will bring my email archives, and we can go through the ILDA Technical Committee emails -- the vast majority of them were public on something called the ILDA Tech Com List server -- and show you exactly who suggested what, when, and why. (This is all published information that can not be altered after-the-fact.) Then you will know the parties involved and what was being discussed. In fact, I suggest we do this exercise in front of everyone, so that everyone can see that everything that I have written is the truth.

Let me also say that I agree with you wholeheartedly that the header should not have been changed. I would go even further to say that the suggested changes were really not very smart at all! I was very vocal AGAINST the changes. So I agree with you that it shouldn't have been changed. But in fact, I would take it a step further. Format 3 really should never have been created in the first place since, at the time it was proposed, we already had another format on the table, which was proven to work, and actually already in use at the time the 2002 Technical Committee Meeting took place. (It's one of the many reasons why Format 3 was abandoned.)

As for showing you that LD2000 supports Format 2 – NO PROBLEM. You send me a file and I will load it, then send a screen shot showing how it works. But to assume that your software is the only software that can load a Format 2 file is also pretty Narcissistic. What do you think nobody else in the world but you is smart enough to write software to load these files and everyone else but you is a complete idiot?

By the way, do you remember the “ILDA Laser Jam” – laser show that many laserists participated in back in 2002? Well, LOBO participated in the second one, and supplied the beam show for it. They supplied it in the form of ILDA files with interleaved Format 2/Format 0/1 frames. The rest of the Laser Jam was mostly made by Pangolin users, and the final version was assembled on, and played by Pangolin’s LD2000 system. LOBO's beam show wouldn’t have worked without our ability to support Format 2… So I know it works, and has worked for a very long time...

Sorry James, but you just have your history wrong, and I am amazed that you insist on your own versions of reality... I was very impressed by you when we met in person, but now I really don't know what to think.
