In our school they have replaced most of the computers (more than thousand I think) and installed Windows Vista. Half a year later they have installed XP again
. Just wondering how much that would cost!
I have Vista 64 and its great, if not that different to XP.
Only thing about Vista is its a lot more power hungary.
I had an Athlon 64 4800+ dual core, 6800GT Graphics card with 2gb of ram. I bought Vista Ultimate and built a new pc around a 6600+ Core 2 Duo, 8800GT graphics card and 4GB ram. Its ran slower than the 4800 system until I overclocked the 6600+ from 2,6ghz core to 3.0ghz core (equivolent to around 6800+). Now it runs just great and its an easy, mild, safe oc.
Some people can have disc thrashing issues but thats usually prefetching and it can be turned off by altering a registry value, plenty of tutuorials around the web.
Those who have problems usually have slow pc's or out dated hardware. You do need a powerful pc in my opinion to run it well.
Every time I use Vista I want to harm myself. I give less theabout fancy graphics, how transparent my windws are and how cool they fade. On all my machines I run stripped versions of XP. Everything that I don't need is stripped. OS is needed to run fancy things not opposite way.
I hired an Italian guy to do my wires. Now they look like spaghetti!
we at mixedgas light heavy industries tried Vista at work. Vista was autoinstalled remotely by the computer center across the whole campus. I used it for a few days. At that point, Vista got stripped off every woking lab machine and XP and 2K went back in. Except for my laptop, all home machines are 98!
There will be NO vista in my life, hello linux or mac, and service pack 3 just tried to auto download itself. It aint going in!

I find the Vista complaints kind of interesting because I use Vista daily at home and XP daily at work and I really don't even notice a difference. Maybe it is because I have been using both for awhile. But, I don't have any performance issues or compatibility problems. I'm pretty sensitive to issues like that since I use the computer a lot so its odd that I hear complaints about Vista all the time. I don't really get it. I'm not saying I don't it when people say that. I just don't experience those issues. I noticed a little slower behavior from Vista when I first got it but I increased my system specs to counteract that. But, all I have is an old P4 3.4Ghz CPU and 2GB of memory which is bottom of the barrel these days.
That said, I really see no benefits of going to Vista other than the fact that XP is dieing and losing support. Vista doesn't really do anything better than XP.
Maybe you are not having problems with XP or Vista because you don't see your relationship with your computer in the same way.
I like to think I work the computer, not the other way around.

WTF? I've been using computers since my TRS-80.
TBH I never use transparent windows or any vista features. Like I say to most its just like XP, only difference really is better security and search facilities.
