Canned Smoke

i have found the best smoke in a can it comes from the usa
Its used in movies etc but costs £10 a tin on ebay.

I to treid the maplin can smoke but found it made the dance floor very slippy.

This stuff is amazing it 100 % does not set of smoke alarks or fire alarms
and ist dry you can spray it on a table and no oil will be on there.

i only tend to use it if there are smoke alarms wired to a alarm system

That's the same stuff I've used for the "home demos", and it works pretty well....unfortunately, I found out that it WILL set off the smoke alarm if you use too much, and if you don't cancel the call with your monitoring service fast enough, the fire department WILL show up !!

That sounds more like the original smoke in a can that Maplin's used to sell before they moved over to this new stuff.

My water-based Antari will not set off the fire alarm! I think...
I don't have many experience with fog machines and fire-alarms but I used it once on a party in a venue with fire alarm. It was not activated by my little smoker. Of course it is possible somebody has put off the alarm

I'm now looking at this, to go back to stands once again, but I just can't bring myself to spend the money at the moment as I seem to be spending a lot on something I can use little:

As for smoke, I'm still considering options.

The maplin Vivid unit hasn't come down and time is running out for my event as its getting colder so I might need to plump for something else. At the moment the Martin Magnum's looking ever more attractive because if I have to go expensive, then I might as well purchase something quality. I keep hearing bad things about Achmes and cheap Antaris which all seem to be a rebranded standard design.

Again money is a worry though as its all adding up way too much for someone who isn't working.

If you're going to spend 70 quid on a stand then I'd recommend this triangular truss from Squire Sound and Light.
A triangular truss will be inherently stronger than the Maplins jobby which is important when it's holding up your precious lasers.

They also have a couple of smoke machines for 30 quid.
Worth a punt (even if they just last a year) at that price.

My water-based Antari will not set off the fire alarm! I think...

We set the fire alarm off at SELEM every year with my water-based Antari 1200Z fogger. A fogger most certainly can trigger a particulate-based fire alarm if the fog is heavy enough. You can reduce the chances of triggering an alarm by using the fog sparingly, spreading it around with a fan, and by covering the detector with a damp towel.

More likely that you just got lucky and didn't have the fog quite thick enough to trigger the alarm.
