I know of a venue for future use possibly, I don't know the rate so would have to explore it if was interest, might be too expensive, would have to see. Its a purpose built brick scout hut in the grounds of a school. Very high vaulted ceiling with no cross beams, white and green walls, windows in the very top so nothing much to reflect on the walls.

Its also very large - was marked out previously for 2 full size badmington doubles courts, has toilets and a nice kitchen. Car park is in the school grounds and the caretakers house is next to the car park. Its also in one of the best areas of Sheffield so very little problems anyway.

Here's a pic from inside - you can see the badmington court markings and the roof strutts which give you the 1/2 way across mark - its big and high!:

Easy motorway links as Sheffield is at the junction of the M1 and A1. Place is on Chesterfield side but can be found by either taking the Chesterfield Junction then a bypass or the Meadowall Junction then Sheffield Parkway and Ring Road.

Looks good to me. Can those side windows be blacked out at all? Are there any skylights?
I had to do a check on those criteria the other day at the Surfleet venue as I wasn't truly sure if it had skylights or not - could have been embarrassing on the day

Hmm well spotted. Those windows used to have curtains, I never noticed they'd gone - you can see the rails. I'd have to check that as well. I suppose we could drape material off the rails over them if need be.

There are no Skylights though, that much I do know!

There's really no shortage of suitable venues for a meet just off the M1 corridor between Sheffield and Leeds. Many are available at minimal cost as well (I know, i've looked ).

I have previously deliberately held off posting details on these as I didn't want to fragment the already established meeting down in Leicester. I guess it would be nice for all of us to have a meet that was 5 minutes from our homes, but I feel that would somehow take something away from the main meeting.

The one that Jim's organising is fine as it falls in-between the regular meets and gives those in the wilds of Lincolnshire something a bit closer to home . Plus we all know that Jim et al will still support the main meeting in Leicester, but I would hate to see the meetings becoming too regionalised so we lose support for the main meetings.

    Just my twopenneth

    Cheers

Wasn't suggesting it as a replacement for Surfleet, just maybe somewhere to try in the future.

    Hi RGB

Another thing to check is if the hall has smoke detectors or heat detectors, the reason i ask is .... last year my band did a gig in a large sports hall theatre, and because it had a wooden floor the local council made them fit smoke detectors ..... and the fire alarm dialed directly to the fire station with no way to disable the detectors

= no haze .... so we could not use lasers

but it looks a good venue

    all the best ... Karl

I can look into it and the cost.

Jem, I should have said this earlier really but here goes, I'm not suggesting a replacement for the main meet, that should stay where its always been. Tradition has a lot to play there.

I just thought that if you were going to have extra, small meets, it might be nice to have them at different locations for variety and also so everyone gets a chance to have one nearer to them perhaps within the boundary of a centrally located area so no-one has too far to travel.

    Just my 2 cents.

Hey, don't get me wrong here , a meeting in Sheffield sounds good to me, I could almost walk there

As much as I love all things Scottish (Andy Stewart, Lulu, Midge Ure, Stovie Tatties etc.) I wouldn't go all that way for a laser meet.
    Sorry........
