Most all the diodes he is selling are from a pile of rejected units that were to be scrapped for the gold content. So they were piled into a bin and one would be lucky to get one that has not had damage from handling......not that it was an issue for junk. This is what I have been told on good authority. He had won a bulk buyout auction and this is where the stuff is from. I would'nt waste a dime on the whole lot of it. Interested to see what you get for replacement if anything. A good diode comes at a fair price......however if you are satisfied with one already through the mill......they come a little cheaper.

    Damn... i bought a 2W C Mount 808nm of him.
    Hope i don't get screwed.

Lucky for me i also ordered one from Snoctony. Which seems a very reliable seller reading all the positive replies also here.

But i also bought a c-mount cavity with crystals for making my first own 532nm. So one diode is to fix my lasever and one would be a DIY project green.
If one is broken i also don't have no use for the c-mount cavity, well...we'll see, but i am not happy reading all this negative stuff ;-(

Mmm...well keep you posted, 1 week has past and didn't receive it, most of the times takes 10 days,....so a little patience...

All of that is true, no doubt about it. I do want to add, however, that the diodes that I have bought from Chris that were part of the Boston Lasers inventory (which is what Chris bought at auction. He bought their entire remaining inventory, not just the rejects) have for the most part been good, with the exception of a couple. There are various reasons why a diode might fail QC tests, not all of which mean the diode itself or its connections are bad. Chris isn't asking obscene prices for this stuff, so really it's not a terrible deal if you can get some good customer service out of him. From what I hear that can be difficult at times. My own experiences have all been positive, but that does not seem to be the consistent trend.

Yes, he bought a lot from Boston Laser. Like you said, the diodes were sold for gold scrap.

It seems there are 4 types of customers, those who are happy- everything goes well, those who have a problem, and contact civilly about it and it get's resolved ok, and those who are impossible to please, and those who buy solely for the purpose of harassment/blackmail.

Such is the nature of any business. Everybody has their own level of customer service. Some people will bend over for the customer in any and all cases, even if a customer is basically stealing from them. On the other extreme you have the AS IS shady dealer who goes out of their way to defraud- I'm somewhere in the middle.

The Boston lasers lot had a lot more than junk diodes. it had several new in box diodes as well as other equipment/parts, judging from the looks of the items i won, the company was working one day then one day closed it's doors without warning.

It is true the diodes were sold for "gold reclaim" but this had a lot more to with liability protection than health of the diodes. If you believe i had the time to go through those bins of scrap/rejected diodes, you are very, very mistaken. There are more than enough healthy diodes to go through and test to last a lifetime.

If you want them scrap diodes, then there are offerings on LPF for plenty of 'em that YOU can sort though.

    @heruursciences:
Like i said, i am still hoping to receive a proper one. I didn't knew all this, i bought it from you as you offered a lot on Ebay and i have kept a close eye on your auctions for a long time. For now i look positively forward receiving a nice diode i can use to fix my green Lasever. If it's not working i hope we can work it out together. If it's working ofcourse i will post in the seller review area here as that's only fair.

Can you tell me when you shipped it out ? As i said most of the times it takes like 10 days, but you can't really tell.

I think the part that makes most people angry, Chris, is when you sell a laser diode as "untested" when you *CLEARLY* have the knowledge and ability to verify if it's good or not. Granted, I'm dragging up history from several years ago based on usenet posts on alt.lasers, but the fact remains that someone of your stature has no business selling an expensive laser diode (like a direct-injection blue, or a very high power red) without first testing it.

To be fair, I had a few deals with you *years* ago on E-bay, and everything went fine back then. So yes, you can be an honest, upstanding seller. However, I have also read horror stories of deals gone very wrong, including some that happened recently. And in a lot of those cases, the stories were written by people I know and trust, which makes it very hard for me to accept your claim that they were solely for the purposes of harassment or blackmail.

Bottom line - you have an image problem. I'm not saying that it's permanent; you can do things to improve it, and it does appear that you've been working at this lately. But I'd refrain from selling anything that might not work 100% correctly unless you explicitly state that the seller might be buying nothing more than a pile of junk.

Well I got the replacement diode yesterday and fired it up. Well no surprize its dead Dam there is no real excuse for this. WHY Chris do you not check these before you send them out?????????? and please don`t say I burned it out, I have been doing this for a few yeas now and its not a lot of money so if I blew one I would just buy another one. Waiting to here from you.
