I am all about the misquotes (for years on a forum I had the sig "Pus ca change, pus c'est la meme chose" as a cynical joke), but yep, that's about the size of it. I saw it spelled as 'Illegitimatus' on a round badge in 1986, I think someone thought it sounded more Latin, and I didn't know enough to argue.

Wow that is a good idea, I will have to put that in my bag of tricks! Until I looked at auction I thought it was a diode to fiber coupler by your description but it just focuses the fiber output (nice use of retail products)! I suppose if you did it right you could run it backwards (but probably a lot of loss).

For those of you who don't follow alt.lasers, there was a large discussion on there about a person who felt they had been ripped off by Leubner. He then proceed to post the private information of the member from paypal/ebay. When that along with the information posted earlier in this thread was reported to ebay, he has since been deactivated as a member from ebay for these violations.
