    Default laserscope

    they dont blank?

so how do you do a beam show if it does not blank? and u need to use scanners? again how do u do a beam show without scanners?

    im lost

They dont blank. if you want to blank them you need to do it with a scanner and corner mirror setup - externally.
They are for doing BIG beams outdoors - something that will be seen for miles - you can scan them with big mirrors and slow scanners as the beam is pulsed (the action of the Q-switch) but even though its at a fairly high repetition rate the scanrate is limited.

I sit me or have we hijacked this thread

Like I said the laser does not blank in the lasershow sense of the word. You blank them like you used to have to do with gassers before the advent of PCAOMs using a scanner with a retroreflector. You can do it with a scanner and flag but retroreflector is the fastest way to do it mechanically. However as I said the beam is pulsed so if you scan too fast you get a dotted line - so scan speed is limited. You dont use a laser like this for animations - they are big beam machines - big BIG beams.

You can blank with the q-switch in a laserscope. You will not get 100% depth of modulation and your rep rate will be slower. As stanwax said this is not an animation laser but you can "chop" the laser. Many of us have successfully blanked laserscopes.

Warning: blanking with a q-switch can and will destroy your KTP if you do not employ properly callibrated first pulse suppression. For example if you see my thread on my Cobra YAG i encorporated q-switch blanking as a standard in my system. It can be done (if you know what you are doing) It is called trial & error...lots of error.

I recall seeing somewhere you can overlay frames at different scan rates to help "smudge" the unwanted QS blanking effect.

What's the % likelyhood of this beastie being there in December then Rob?

Damn its only been 16 years but here is what I got.

Crystal technology driver with First Pulse Suppression Card.

Pin 1-external pulse polarity- Default=Open=positive pulse input - short/ground=negative pulse input
Pin 2-external pulse input-ttl/cmos external pulse inputs (pulse width must be less than 10 usecs)
    Pin 3-Pulse suppression-default=open=active - short/ground=inactive
    Pin 4-ext/int mode control - default=open=ext prf input - short/gnd=int prf
Pin 5-+5vdc -low current supply for external logic and int prf select lines
    Pin 6,7,8-INT PRF select lines- default=GROUND - +5v=activated
Pin 9-Interlock Inhibit-Inhibits LO RF interlock only - Required for non-qs operation such as slow direct digital RF modulation
Pin 10- Direct Modulation Input - (LO RF interlock inhibit required) Default=open/HIGH=RF ON=LASER OFF - Low/Gnd=RF OFF= Laser On
    Pin 11-Ground
    Pin 12-QS Thermostat-normal=nc - open=qs overtemp (shuts RF OFF)
Pin 13, 15- Fault Summary Relay - normal=NC Closes for any fault
Pin 14- LOW RF CW- Default GND/low=normal RF level - DEFAULT High(+5)=reduced RF for QS alignment
    Pin 16- Carrier Freq
