There *are* other free laser show software packages out there. You just don't know about them. A quick search through the PL archives might point you in the right direction. However, to sum up: Uclinux laser is free. Poplescan is free. There is an early version of HE-Laserscan that is free. And there is the LFI Player that is soon to be re-released with a new user's manual and added features. That's just off the top of my head; I'm sure there are others.
Having said that, I think Gary's software is fairly easy to use, and thus is a good fit for the hobbyist community. I think that it is one of the better, if not the best, free laser show software packages out there - at least based on my personal experience. (Disclaimer: I haven't seen the LFI player or Agilent-C's project, so they may be better or worse.)
I'm not going to get into the whole "Spaghetti vs Mamba Black" or "Spaghetti vs anything else" argument, because it's not really important. The folks that are using Spaghetti are probably not in the market for Mamba anyway, so what's the point?
Gary has the opportunity to do something nice for the community. From his posts above, it seems that he is reluctant to do so, however. We'll see I guess...
Adam
adam.. none of those do what spaghetti does
UCLINUX stopped in april of 2004
LFI and HE do not have a "timed to music" ability
so there is nothing that does what spaghetti does.. (that i know of)
