I am liking this air mouse app. You cannot see the desktop but you can assign hot keys to the GUI buttons. Running Winamp nicely.

Andy, try it on a wired of first; then go adhoc.

I used my phone (SEM X1) to control my laser on a gig 2 weeks ago using a windows mobile remote desktop client over wifi. I have to say it worked quite well, but due to the low resolution (800x480) of the phone it's hard to fit the entire livepro workspace on it.

A very useful tool for setting up wireless networks is the Fon router. Not so much in its original state, but once you replace the firmware on it with your own OpenWrt it becomes invaluable. It can do pretty much anything you need for a wireless network and it's quite small as well.
